SATURDAY, MAY 2
1 - 3 pm
50 Agnes St #209, Providence RI 02909
PART ONE (online)
The workshop will start with a brief overview of the history of zines, including how they’ve been used by marginalized communities to disrupt and counteract narratives created by those in power. We’ll also look at and read through examples of contemporary zines for design and content inspiration. Artists will learn basic analog and digital techniques for zine creation and be provided with resources to explore more on their own.
PART TWO (in person)
After a brief intention setting and conversation about the magic of risograph printing, you’ll be led through a demonstration on our riso EZ591s, Octavia and Dolly. We'll discuss specifics in class, but preliminary information about our machines can be found here.
No prior riso printing experience is necessary.
Everyone will create a single color cut and fold or stapled zine, and will receive 20 copies, as well as copies of everyone else’s zines. Students are able to choose from a variety of provided paper choices, or supply their own.
Successful completion of the workshop provides participants with access to future open studio hours.
One workshop spot has been set aside for one Black, Indigenous, or person of color who lives or works in the greater Providence area to attend free of charge. If this describes you, please email us. Patreon supporters at the Bay Leaf level or above can also attend free of charge.
The studio is on the second floor and accessible by both stairs and elevator.
