SNAKE HAIR RISO RESIDENCY

Snake Hair invites artists to apply for a riso residency to produce prints, artist books, zines, or other publications in Providence, Rhode Island. Projects should be proposed with the nuances of riso printing in mind. More information on the specifics of our machines can be found at www.snakehair.com/services.

In addition to our two Riso EZ591s with 16 ink colors, the studio also includes access to a spiral binder, Guillo-Max 17 inch guillotine manual stack paper cutter, large table for collating, black and white letter size laser printer, small epson scanner, light box, paper jogger, foiling laminator, and the Snake Hair archive and zine library.

The residency is offered at a sliding scale of $100 - $300 per week, part of which is redistributed to the Residenct Grant Fund. Residents are responsible for the cost of consumable studio materials used, including paper, ink, and riso masters.

The Residency Grant Fund includes a $150 material stipend to cover riso masters and ink impressions. Any masters or ink impression costs above the stipend must be covered by the resident. All other supplies, including paper, must be provided by the resident.

Residents must be able to respectfully and independently work in a co-working space. The studio is located in on the second floor of a former textile factory in the Olneyville neighborhood of Providence, Rhode Island, and is accessible by stairs and elevator.

Residents must agree to sign a community agreement prior to acceptance and, regardless of previous experience, must participate in a brief safety training session before operating the risos.

Artists will retain all rights and everything produced during the residency to use in whatever way they desire. At the culmination of the residency, artists agree to donate at least one print or publication to the Snake Hair archive.

The residency does not include housing or transportation to and from Providence and is best suited for artists in the greater Providence / Boston area or those willing to cover their own housing and transportation costs.

The 2025 residency application will become available in late January.
